Hi Families,
I only have a few reminders this week. Students will bring home their first math assessment in the next few days. As a result of the math assessment, students will be involved in intensive review of standard NBT.2 which states that students will be able to use various strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations and word problems. Students do not have a solid understanding of this concept. I noticed they made very simple mistakes by adding when they should have subtracted and vice versa. A great number of them struggle with number sense - knowing number order to fluently add or subtract correctly. I will continue to work on these concepts at school, but I need your help at home! It is ok if students solve addition and subtraction problems the traditional way. That is considered a strategy as well. As long as they understand the regrouping, borrowing, ungrouping, etc. Please help your child at home with these concepts and I will continue to review and intervene here at school!
I will be creating data binders for each student. These binders will hold all assessments for the year. You will be able to go over the assessments with your child, sign them, and return them to school.
This week in Reading we are continuing mClass assessments. We are almost finished with these! In Writing we are beginning to learn how to write cursive letters. In Math, students will learn how to round to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100 as well as estimate solutions in word problems. In Science, students will learn about constellations.
Thank you to the 2 families that ordered books this month! We were able to order 8 books to add to our classroom library because of your order!
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to message me on REMIND or send an email to [email protected]
